If you have ever had a surgery and was required to use a drain tube, the attached image probably provides flashbacks. (Sorry but it's during some of our most undesirable times that we learn the best lessons if we are willing to listen to the spirit.)
Surgical drains remove pus, blood and other fluids from a wound. Ironically they don't expedite your healing or prevent infection but are sometimes necessary to drain body fluid which may accumulate and in itself become a focus or infection. Drain volume must be constantly and accurately recorded/monitored, accumulations removed and protective dressings must be constantly changed.
Here's the kicker: it is common for drains to become clogged or obstructed which will increase the risk of infection and complications. Once they become clogged or obstructed, drains are removed as they no longer provide any benefit.
So what areas in your life currently drain you--unforeseen/undesired circumstances, broken relationships, losses, financial needs, emotional hurts? What things occupy your thoughts and emotions in a negative way? As the above example demonstrates, drains are sometime necessary to remove those things that can infect or block your entire purpose, vision, life's meaning and God's plan. So allow the feelings of stress and strain to highlight those areas/circumstances you need to monitor, fast and pray over and appropriately address. However, once the drain no longer provides any benefit and becomes obstructed or clogged, prayerfully remove it.
