I know, it has been awhile since I blogged. My passions have kept me busy and I have been engaged in more face-to-face activities versus the web. As I have experienced many recent highs in my life, current world events sadden me.
The Baltimore riots are just one more example of Bible prophecy being fulfilled and highlights the state of our nation. Often I don't want to look at the news because it saddens me to see the reality of things versus the media's manipulation and schemes to divert attention away from the real issues. Tonight, however, one commentary provided insight that surpassed the Baltimore riots. Norfolk State University's Dr. Kimberly Hutson said:
"Some argue that they are destroying their own community, their own resources but I think some have to realize that in order for you to destroy your own community, your own resources, you have to realize that they are yours."
Valid point which made me think: how many times do we not pursue our passions or excel because we do not realize that we can? How many of us do not accomplish a goal or dream because we do not utilize available resources and tools because we don't know we have access to them? Even if you are one of the fortunate ones with vision and daily exhaust yourself in pursuit of your passions, do you really recognize the magnitude of the influence you have RIGHT NOW or do you have tunnel vision of your worth when you make it or finally arrive?
Truly obedience is better than sacrifice but, as a believer, I know that without God opening my eyes step by step I could never accomplish any good thing. After being accustomed to striving, fighting and trying to keep hope alive (and my sanity) in a sea ofno's and can'ts, it was hard to realize the connections, abilities and unique gifts that I had which made it impossible for me to live below my dreams any longer.
The time has come for a new standard and life at a new level. May we all take Dr. Kimberly Hutson's words to heart and apply it to our lives. Realize your own community and resources so that you don't destroy them; know what you have and what is yours.
